Selection and Class Placement Process

  • A lottery system will be used if there is more demand for a class than there is space available.
  • Special Consideration (only applies towards 1 class): Students who are placed on a waitlist for a class will have priority placement for that particular class during next session. A registration form for each student is still required.
  • If your child is placed in one or more classes or waitlisted, a letter will be e-mailed or sent home to you by Wednesday, April 5th (or we may call you). This admittance letter will indicate the payment(s) required to secure your child’s placement in the related class(es).

Class Withdrawals and Refunds

Class Withdrawals and Refunds During the registration period (Now until March 31st), you may withdraw your registration request for any reason. To request a withdrawal and/or a refund (if applicable), you must contact Beth Foreman, Director of Operations at Baroody Camps ([email protected]). After March 31st, Baroody Camps cannot guarantee a full refund for any class(es). All refunds will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis & must be discussed with Baroody Camps directly. The John Adams PTA is NOT responsible for issuing credits/cancellations for any of the classes.

Arrivals to Programs

Teachers will receive an electronic and paper copy list of their students participating in Enrichment programs. They are asked but NOT required to remind students. We also ask parents to remind their children each morning.
Please also feel free to remind teachers and/or SACC and McLean Falls Church Children Center staff that your child will be attending class.

Dismissal

  •  It is imperative that you indicate the dismissal arrangements for your child on the registration form. Please note that it is not permissible to be late for pick-up. If you are late more than two times, your child will no longer be able to participate in the program. Please be aware that school personnel will not be available at this time to supervise your child. • Parent Pick-Up: Parents/caregivers must pick up children promptly. All After-School Enrichment Programs participants will be dismissed outside at the kiss and ride area. Parents/caregivers must park their cars and sign their child out.
  • Recreation/Campagna Centers: Students attending the Recreation Center or the Campagna Center after school will be escorted to the appropriate locations following the class.
  • Activity Bus: John Adam’s activity bus will be available to those students who usually take the bus home after school. Students going home on the activity bus will be escorted to the school’s main entrance (bus bay) following class. The activity bus leaves at 4:00pm.
  • *Note: The LEGO program ends at 4:00pm. Students must leave the program early to ride on the bus. Changes to dismissal: The On-Site Programs Coordinator will provide each John Adams teacher and each after-school programs Instructor with a list of children participating in the various after-school programs along with their dismissal instructions. You are responsible for notifying the Director of Operations (Beth Foreman) of any changes to your child’s regular dismissal process from his/her after-school program.

Snacks & Allergies

ACPS-provided snacks are available to all After-School Enrichment Programs participants. We encourage families to take advantage of these snacks both for the convenience they offer & for the low risk they pose to children with allergies. It is not permitted to send your own snack with your child. Please reach out to the Director of Operations (Beth Foreman) for special snack considerations. If your child has an allergy and/or asthma, serious or not, a Medical Condition/Allergy waiver must be completed before the start of programs.

*Note: After-School Enrichment Programs do not have access to the health office, however, our On-Site Coordinators are trained to store and administer medication safely.

Snacks will NOT be permitted at any time during programs. Program providers will be given an allergy list of students participating in their class. If your child has a medical condition and/or allergy, serious or not, please indicate this at the time of registration. If your child requires medication, please click HERE to complete our medication form.

Note: We do not have access to the health office during Enrichment programs, however, our On-Site Coordinators are trained to store and administer medication safely.

Standards of Behavior

We want to ensure that all students participating in the after-school enrichment programs enjoy the experience. In order for this to happen, it is expected that all students will conform to regular John Adams classroom and school rules and regulations while attending a program. The providers are all experienced Instructors and will use accepted classroom management techniques to allow misbehaving children to adjust. If a child continues to have difficulties, he or she will be removed from the class and be placed with the On-Site Programs Coordinator who will decide if and when to return the child to class that day. The On-Site Programs Coordinator will also inform the parents about the situation. If a child is removed from a class a second time, that child will be withdrawn from that class for the remainder of the session. The School will be informed of this decision. No partial refunds will be given in these situations. We look to all parents to support our class providers so that all children can enjoy the after-school classes.

Kindergarten Students

We will not be offering After-School Enrichment Programs to kindergarten students. John Adam’s Principal, Ms. Lee, has endorsed this policy.
